Jane Helen Speed, rodným jménem J. H. Krisherová, se narodila v Akronu, Ohio. Vystudovala filmovou a rozhlasovou dramaturgii na Ohio Wesleyan a Northwestern University's School. Později pracovala jako rozhlasová skriptka pro WFMJ v Youngstownu, Ohio. Autorka dvou desítek povídek pro prestižní EQMM (1963–76) a jedné povídky pro AHMM (1977). Po smrti svého editora a dlouholetého rádce Freda Dannaye (1981) již nepublikuje. Zemřela v 71 letech v New Yorku na masivní infarkt.
