PITAVAL - databáze detektivní, thrillerové a špionážní literatury

Jeden z prvních soukromých detektivů byl americký Old Sleuth neboli „starý slídič“ – muž s nadlidskou silou. Jeho příběhy vycházely v letech 1885–1905 ve vlastním časopise Old Sleuth Library, dále v letech 1908–1912 Old Sleuth Weekly. První příběh napsal Harlan Page Halsey 10. 6. 1872 (Fireside Companion; A Journal of Instructive and Entertaining Literature magazine, George Munro, New York), po jeho smrti se postavy ujali další autoři. Hrdina stovek detektivních příběhů je dnes zapomenutou relikvií v historii detektivní literatury a „dime novels“, a tak dnešní čtenáři jistě netuší, že majitelé časopisu OSL se v roce 1888 dokonce soudili se svými nově vzniklými konkurenty (mj.
